Forced to join an experimental program at Ceegris Labs by her drunk father, seventeen-year-old Jade quickly finds that the searing headaches from using her new power to teleport are even worse than the abuse from her father back home. She devises a plan to escape and live on her own in the wilderness of the Smoky Mountains. However, before she has a chance to bust out, her new ability mutates and turns her into a creature who kills. Now, Jade must race against the other trainees to find the one remaining dose of the cure.
(Great for fans of THE GRACE YEAR by Kim Liggett and CITY OF NIGHTMARES by Rebecca Schaeffer.)
After failing several of his history tests, Jack needs the extra credit offered by his teacher by bringing a friend to the school Halloween dance. However, after misinterpreting several social interactions with his classmates and getting bullied because of his neurodevelopmental delays, Jack decides to search for the legendary Magical Orb to solve his problems. The orb succeeds in increasing Jack’s intelligence and popularity, but when Jack discovers the orb also threatens to harm those around him, Jack must choose between a new life of popularity (and a sure date for the dance) or his old life without the orb.
(A retelling of FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON, with a DR. STRANGE twist.)
