On the verge of homelessness, seventeen-year-old Kyah and her younger brother receive no help from their strung-out mother. Kyah, determined to find a source of stability and income, participates in superpower experiments at Ceegris Labs. However, when she develops unexpected migraines during levitation training, the guards lock her in the basement with the other trainees recovering from side effects from the superpower serums.
A strange heaviness weighs on Kyah’s vision as her symptoms worsen. When she stares at a wandering rat, her eyes burn with heat, and the poor rodent collapses in death. Repulsed by her mutating powers and deadly gaze, she avoids eye contact with the other trainees.
Kyah discovers a journal in the basement that reveals clues leading to a cure hidden in a nearby cave. With reluctant help from Jade, a teleportation trainee who prefers to work alone, Kyah devises a plan for them to escape and search for it. But Jade’s assistance soon becomes unreliable as her abilities transform, giving her the same lethal power that plagues Kyah.
When the heat in their eyes expands, a haziness settles over their minds. Kyah and Jade desperately hunt for the cure before they forget the clues. However, with their instinct to kill intensifying each minute, the girls soon fear each other…
And the creatures they become.
